Raw Food 101
What is the Raw Food Diet?
The raw food diet is simply a diet full of fruits, nuts, vegetables and legumes that have not been cooked over a certain temperature (usually 105-116 degrees depending on the food type). The raw food diet allows your body to consumer the maximum amount of nutrients possible because when food is cooked the nutrients and proteins are broken down by the heat.
When food is cooked a minimum of 50% of the essential nutrients in the food is broken down and basically killed. The problem is, at a minimum, you have to eat twice as much cooked food to get the same amount of nutrients compared to raw food. This essentially forces you to overeat because while your stomach may be full your body is starving for nutrients and your brain tells your mouth to keep on going.
When you eat raw food the essential proteins, nutrients and enzymes are alive and are use as fuel almost immediately and when you have had enough fuel you stop eating. When you eat cooked food (especially processed animal products) your fuel is dead and while you may feel “full” you are actually starving your body of the things it needs.
