Crazy Benefits from the Raw Food Diet
Outside of the obvious weight loss and health benefits that the raw good diet brings I often hear of benefits that one wouldn’t normally think of when considering this type of diet.
I have heard multiple people talk about how they started getting headaches after going on the raw food diet and it took them a while to figure out they they were being caused by the fact that they didn’t need their prescription glasses or contacts anymore. I can say that I think my vision has improved as well, not that much as I have 20/20 as it is but things do seem sharper.
Another one is stress. Myself and others seem to have calmer attitude about life after starting the raw food diet. I think I started noticing it when something at work would happen and what would typically make me want to come to a boil would result in something like “well…I am sure it will work out” type feeling. This historically was not the way I would have handled these situations so I have to think I am managing my stress level better thanks to raw food.
The weirdest benefit that myself and others have received is an increase in sense of smell. I know it sounds weird but recently my wife came home from work at about 8:00 PM. I gave her a hug and when I did I was overwhelmed by this coffee sent (yes she has a cup from time to time) and I asked if she had a cup of coffee on the way home. She looked at me kinda puzzled and said “why?” When I told her that I she was smelling very strongly of coffee she started laughing saying that she did have a cup but it was at 6:00 AM…14 hours before.
I know those aren’t HUGE reasons to change to the raw food diet and in fact I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say “man…I wish I could improve my sense of smell” but when you do make the switch you start to become super human. Your resistance to disease and weight gain are just part of the many benefits you will receive from the raw food diet.
For those that are eating raw now…what are some strange benefits you have noticed?

Hi Hunter. I am enjoying reading your blog and recipes. I’m wondering if your wife went on the raw food diet with you?
Great job and congrats to you!
Christina
Thanks for the comments and email. Yea, she did. It was interesting at first. I think a lot of people think that raw is just carrot sticks and lettuce but there is SO much more to it then that.
keep it real, iight
Well Hunter we have started easing into it. although the nuts and seeds I have been eating are roasted, i have been eating raw fruits and, cabbage bak choy and raw juices with my jack lalanae jucier that i bought 2 years ago. just used it for the first time a few days ago. I am sleeping a little better and when i wake up the normal swelling of my feet is down. which is strage because I have been eating the roasted (salted nuts)
Congrats David…
That works for some people. I personally just went cold turkey. I dont have that kind of will power.
The juicing is great. Check out a recipe I have on here for my dressing: http://raw-food-diet.com/recipes/my-favorite-salad-and-raw-dressing/
Take it and dip any veggies you want in it…SO good.
Tell me this…what is keeping you from going 100%? Is there something holding you back? Something you dont want to let go of just yet? You can make raw nuts taste great with seasoning etc. I put a little oil, a little celtic sea salt and some cayenne in a bag with cashews (or any nut) shake them up and yum. That might help!
I think the # 1 tip I can give to newbies is to find a 100% raw smoothie that you love. If worst comes to worst and you get hungry you can always have one of those. Plus…they are an awesome way to start the day.
To be honest my only drawback to jumping in is that I and my wife only get paid once per month and we had our refrigerator filled and our pockets empty LOL. So we kind of have to not waste what we already bought. But I go on vacation for 14 days first of October, so we are going 100% raw in about 5 days. we are going to fill up the fridge and cabinets with raw fruits and nuts. It did not dawn on me to season the nuts and seeds myself; I will do just that thank you.
